Hey Guys,
Just a short note to remind everyone that the journey is now in sight; we have reached the one month to go point and the excitement is growing quickly.
I’m sure each of you have committed to memory the turn-by-turn directions provided earlier; but I thought I’d add some additional daily info just in case some of the details are hazy…
Day One:
The day will be 85+/- miles long with the high point being 718 feet at roughly the 21 mile mark. We’ll be departing San Francisco along the bay, traveling under the very beginning of the Golden Gate Bridge, and winding through some fabulous areas of the city before joining Highway One for our trip towards Santa Cruz.
Day Two:
Another 85+/- mile long day, with the high point being 610 feet; perhaps the easiest day over-all. We travel south from Santa Cruz mostly along rural farm roads and bike paths until we near Monterey where it will begin to get a little hillier as we enter the northern end of Big Sur. It’s here that we’ll find the high point of the day at roughly the 65 mile mark.
Day Three:
Our queen stage at 117+/- miles, with nearly 15,000 feet of total climbing – the day will be a slog! The good news is that the high point of the day, 1000 feet, comes at the very start of the day, and the bulk of the climbing is over by the 50 mile mark. Remember to pace yourself, take your time and enjoy the scenery – it’s some of the best in the world. But please note: this section contains some narrow roads, fast technical descents and we may encounter traffic so be CAREFUL!
Day Four:
The day is 105+/- miles with the highest point of the entire trip at 1132 feet coming at roughly the 65 mile mark of the day. A fairly easy day over-all, mostly rolling coastal riding with just the big climb and two back-to back 600 footers coming earlier at the 35 mile point. Some of this route will be right on the ocean along 101…try not to fall in.
Day Five:
Our final day is another 105+/- miler topping out at only 210 feet, if taken alone would probably be the real easiest day; but the fact that it comes at the end and our legs will be heavy may add to the toughness. Enjoy the thought that you are almost done…
So there it is…As always if there are any questions; feel free to let me know…
