8 Weeks Out to the Train of Pain

Day 4

After day 3 this might seem like an easy one; considering it is a shorter day – but remember easy is relative:

We’ll head out towards our 1st climb of the day, pass through St. Helena, reach our most eastern point of the 5 days at about 32.5 miles in as we ride around Lake Hennessy, do the locally famous Ink Grade climb and motor back through Calistoga before turning back towards Santa Rosa and our 2nd night at the Courtyard by Marriott

The day includes 2 main climbs, the first coming very early; beginning at about mile 6, and the second beginning around mile 42 – both topping out in the 2000 foot range, and both with some steep sections. There are a few smaller climbs thrown in as well to keep us all interested in those smaller gears

There will be just one short cut available – cutting miles and eliminates the second big climb of the day

Once you reach the end of day 4…all that remains is day 5 – back to San Francisco we go…
