Today marks the 11 weeks out point until our gathering in Santa Barbara for ToP IV, and we have some good news and bad news; 1st the Bad News = last year’s recipient of the Yellow Jersey, Greg Moore is out of this year’s edition. It seems in his lust to defend his placing he was involved in some secret training and proceeded to get himself doored…resulting in a torn up shoulder that will be requiring surgery…which leads to the Good News = this year the Yellow Jersey competition is wide open. Please remember this is not a race; just a portal to eternal bragging rights – so use your remaining 11 weeks wisely and be ready…about the only given is that the Yellow Jersey will not be ‘won’ by me…too many rainy weekends and apple fritters.
As a reminder; our ride dates are Monday, May 24th to Friday, May 28th with the route being a meandering one from Santa Barbara, ending in San Diego. All riders need to be in SB on Sunday the 23rd; we roll early enough on Monday that there will not be time to arrive that morning.
Over the next weeks I will be pushing out the daily routes and details; but will begin with a little Day 1 info: Riders from year one may remember a section from that year’s Day 4 that included a grinding climb out of Lompoc before a fast decent to the coast and a hammer into Santa Barbara; this section returns during Day 1 this year…
Please note: We still have just a few spots remaining in this year’s ride; I have heard from a number of you with indications of your intentions to participate…but until your Shared Expenses amount is in…nothing is ‘official.
