Inside Two Weeks To Go...

As we rush towards our departure date (May 18th) for the ride I have a few housekeeping issues to address;

First) BIKE TRANSPORT HAS BEEN SECURED

Seems that Bonk Master Bobbo Binder has decided to sacrifice any remaining flexibility left to his old bones; and has volunteered to drive to Portland – towing a trailer loaded with our steeds

Fueled by a case each of Twinkies and Monster: he vows to push through the pain and discomfort said nourishment can bring.

Final details are still being worked out; but the basics are the following:

For San Diego riders - bikes must be at Kevin’s house by Tuesday May 13th
For the OC guys – bikes must to Bob by May 15th
The total fee is looking to be $150 each – which will include the Twinkies, Monster, gas and trailer rental…

Next) A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE ROUTE FOR DAY ONE

It has been discovered that in anticipation of day 1’s former dead flat stage; Kevin flew himself off to Florida for 11 days of table-top flat secret training rides – this covert action has led to a change in our first days route (OK it may be due to a small added safety factor, but I‘ll stick to my first story) You may check out our new Day One here, don’t worry it only adds 2 miles to the days total mileage, and is just as flat; except for the hills…

Next, Next) DAY 5’S ROUTING IS NEARLY READY FOR POSTING

I am just waiting for Wayne to look over and point out a couple of convenient short-cuts I’ll being using to catapult my self into the final day’s yellow jersey…In reality we are still looking at the VERY BEST option for the last few miles to bring us safely home.

Next, Next, Next) IN HONOR OF OUR ARRIVAL

CNN.com, today ran a great article pertaining to Portland’s wackier side; including a bit on Velveteria, a black velvet painting museum – not that I ever had one, but some of the rest of you might be interested.

Finally) TRAIN RIDE THIS SATURDAY

Sat. May 10th, our final group training ride will take place – the famous train ride, in which SD boys catch the 6:10am train north to Irvine, arriving at 7:50 to be joined by any interested OC crew and then pedal south – all are welcome…more to follow in a separate e-mail later in the week.
