86 Days - Grand Reveal

This Post compliments of Kevin Childre.

So far, Carter has been doing the hard work of setting up the logistics for our little adventure - this speaks volumes to his dedication toward the ride, or his lack of commitment to his real job, you all can make that distinction. Now it is time to start setting some solid timelines and forcing the fence sitters to commit. We are planning the Grand Reveal for Saturday, 24 March. This will follow in the fine tradition of those other Grand Tours: the Giro, le' Tour, and that little race in Spain that reminds us of a pesky little brother running to keep up. So mark your calendars for a high-class event. Matt Myers, the Manager of the Year for the Trek store in La Mesa – and the guy that has collected the equivalent of a small counties GNP from a good number of us - has graciously volunteered to serve as our Master of Ceremonies. Decked out in his Geoffrey Beene Tuxedo, he is prepared for anything from crying testimonials to the unscheduled streaking of Axe (protesting the treatment of the American Gambler by our growing legions of non-smoking fanatics).

The Grand Reveal will be held at my house, where I will impress you with my culinary expertise as I strive to undo your hard training work by stuffing you with pizza. Carter and Colin are scheduled for their final fitting as they prepare to fill the roll of the Podium Girls. There will be presentations, the route will be revealed, hotel details ironed out, and collection of shared costs for the driver per diem and van expenses.

Based upon the confirmed riders, the shared costs will be $200 per rider. If we get more riders, any extra money collected will go toward either food or room costs. Carter had insisted that he be paid any excess, but I told him if he’s in need of money perhaps he should devote at least an hour or so a day toward his actual job.

For those riders that will not be able to make it – your loss, I make a fine pizza, and Colin has lovely legs. I will forward you any swag that may be presented, and details will be on this site. You can send your check to Carter – I know, that whole job thing screams unethical results, but we’ll hold out for faith.

As for that whole fence-sitting thing, we need a firm commitment by 20 March so that Carter can finalize hotel rooms. I’ll reach out for a head count for the Grand Reveal a week or so prior, this will give you time to book your formal attire and line up those designer houses for just the right gowns and babbles.

Carter’s address for those sending checks:
